About Us
There is nothing in the world like live theatre – and we have everything in our region to create first-class performances that will thrill audiences and create real opportunities for our talented theatre professionals.
The Professional Theatre Company is Nelson’s brand-new home of storytelling. Stories about us. Stories from afar. Stories to make us think, grow and laugh. Unforgettable shared experiences, powered by the brilliant professional talent right here in our region.
The Professional Theatre Company is collaborating with the Theatre Royal, Whakatū, Nelson with the intent of developing a strong strategic relationship for the benefit of Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough communities.
Our Story
Creating a theatre company is a mammoth task. It needs all elements of artistic creativity as well as equally good realistic business sense. The Board are The Professional Theatre Company's ignition switch to create a solid platform of live professional theatre for the people of Nelson/Tasman.
The Board is a forward-thinking engaged group contributing, living and investing in our community. Undertaking a commitment to The Professional Theatre Company identifies local support for establishing a professional theatre company here in Nelson/Tasman.
The Professional Theatre Company Board consists of members with years of expertise in their own successful careers and businesses with plausible and persuasive reasons why a Nelson-based professional theatre company is feasible and imperative for the city, region and Top of the South.
Weaving our story
This is a symbol of connectivity and energy, with our core messaging of ‘Leading, Live, and Local’ as the foundation. The three L’s subtly anchor our brand mark and then morph into intriguing creative spaces, opening doors into a world of shared experiences. The colours are warm and inviting, evoking the colourful hues of the theatre, its curtains, decor, lighting and drama. The vibrant patchwork of colours also talks to the diversity of our region, bound together in a beautifully graphic woven theme, also echoing the sacred art of Māori weaving.
